I wrote the following rant in response to my friends Facebook post about Android vs. iPhone… a comparison that I personally think is ridiculous, because it’s like comparing a Macbook to Windows 7. They are 2 very different things. Yet, EVERYWHERE on the internet, the comparison lives on. Here goes…

Androids are the shit. That’s no secret. When are y’all gonna realize that Apple has no desire to be “open”? They don’t wanna be the phone that anybody can put out an app on in hours. The iPhone is not for the techy nerds (like the 3 of us) who so badly crave OMG OPEN SOURCE I CAN DO ANYTHING IM 1337!!! iPhone’s are for consumers, because the general consumer demographic is a MUCH bigger one than the demographic that gives a shit about the conversation we’re having right now. Right? Right.

So Android now has 28% of the smart phone market and iOS has 21%….

iOS runs on the Apple iPhone on AT&T.

Android runs on 78 different smart phones on god knows how many carriers.

And that’s great, but it’s an irrelevant comparison.

So, while Android has a 28% market share on smart phone OS’s, Apple has a 21% market share on smart phone OS’s, and a 21% market share on smart phone DEVICES, all while only being available on one phone, and one carrier.

So, 1 in 5 smart phones are manufactured by Apple, running Apple’s OS.

So, when I say “winning”… I’m not referring to a Apple vs. Google or iOS vs. Android battle. I’m referring to to Apple doing exactly what they wanna do and kicking ass at it.

There are a bajillion different mp3 players out there that are cheap, have insane capacities, features, etc. The iPod (long before the iPod touch) is the most popular mp3 player.

There are a gazillion different laptop computers out there with uber processor speeds, low prices, the most ballin’ Windows OS, and 17″ HD screens. The MacBook is (arguably if not indefinitely) the most popular model laptop, when others in the top 5 are half the price.

There are 78 awesome open source smart phones running the Android OS out there. The Apple iPhone is, once again, the most popular device. (not taking BB into consideration, cuz I don’t think they are really in the same genre as Androids & iPhones)

I credit this all to the fact that Apple doesn’t care about being open source or having their iOS running on any manufacturer’s phones. Apple runs Apple OS’s on Apple hardware. That’s what they’ve always done. They’ll let Windows & Google make cross platform OS’s all day long. Let Windows saturate the personal computer market w/ their OS. Let Google saturate the smartphone market with Android. Let Apple make the best personal and professional computing devices in the world, period.

And that, my friends, is why Apple is winning.

all the while, i’ve never been more unsatisfied. this is a hobby. or it was a hobby. i don’t do this to make money. or at least i didn’t plan on it.

Ok, yes, that’s a school bus. It’s cool, we bought it this winter. More about that later.

So, I’ve had the move from hell the last week. I don’t even wanna get into the whole thing. Basically, we got access to our new house on Friday the 2nd. Meanwhile, we had to be out of our old home base at noon, on Friday the 2nd. Besides moving out, we had to paint the interior, clean carpets, take down a wall we built in the garage, and get rid of 2+ years of “meh, just throw it in the garage”.Using the school bus, a U-Haul, and my dad’s truck, we almost did it. We rolled away at like 4pm on Friday. But wait, there’s more… Probably the funniest and silliest part of the move had to do with the bus. We bought this bus to turn it into a party bus, but haven’t built it yet. It is stripped, cleaned, and prepped. It’s kinda like a big U-Haul. I pulled it into the driveway, and we started loading. 2 days later, it was full, and as the picture above shows, we couldn’t get the damn thing outta the driveway. We had to tie a tow chain to the Ford, and pull it, scraping across the cement with hundreds of pounds of weight.

Now, as I mentioned, there was the 2 and a half years of “Just throw it in the garage” to deal with. In 4 trips with the full size truck, we took 3,600lbs of SHIT to the dump. Whoops.

The new place is right next to downtown, and this bish was built in 1896. The wallpapers alone in this place are headaches in the form of interior design. It’s awesome. It seems likely it’s haunted aswell…

The title is sarcastic, if you didn’t gather that by looking at the imagery above. I feel like I could write a book on this. Thanks to Hip Hop, we live in a culture that is flooded by an overwhelming amount of people who are obsessed with “getting money”. Everybody’s doing it!The annoying part of this is that (correct me if I’m wrong) clocking in at your 9-5 is not “getting money”. That is what is called conforming with the system and helping big brother REALLY get money. I dunno what the point of this post is but honestly, even though your shift and Denny’s is long and hard, you’re not hustlin, or grindin. Picking up a paycheck every 2 weeks is not “getting money”.

I feel like I’ve got a lot more to say on this topic, but… I guess this is all for now.

This day has been filled with tweets and facebook updates about the best boyfriends in the world, super cute gifts, beautiful flowers, and other shit that makes me sick to the stomach. As my guy @ChiDuly eloquently put it, “I am so bummed I don’t have someone special in my life to report to every hour, consult with before making any plans, and cuddle with 35 hours a week.” Well said my friend, well said.

I could write a book (but will settle for a later blog post) about why I am not, and will not, be in a relationship for a very long time. Here’s a few quick reasons:

1. At the very best, you will only ever have 1 relationship that doesn’t fail. Every other one, and likely the one you’re in right now, will go down in flames.
2. There’s more important shit to do than cuddle and watch Sex and The City re runs. No really, there is.
3. I never want my happiness(long term and circumstantial) to be dependent on someone else. Oh, you’re not dependent? Well, you should know he’s cheating on you and has been for months. Now how do you feel?
4. I like to party.

I’m certainly going to be writing more about this soon… n for the record, you should know that yes, even I gave a young woman flowers in observation of Valentine’s day. I spent like 5 stacks on em too. 4 shoooo.
