i’m creating a new landing page so that I can send people to my new media portfolio quick and easy. i’m trying to hone in on freelance work and get some more income coming that way. i like the way it looks with my lil calvin character on there, but it’s so damn out of date and not exactly professional. since when do i care about being professional? well, i don’t.. but that’s kind of what this landing page is for. so that i can direct people to my site, at which point they can go to the portfolio (for business), or to the blog (for the rest of my madness and bullshit).

Assuming you’re familiar with each of these videos from YouTube.. this is hilarious. What’s more… Ashton Kutcher tweeted it earlier today to his 5.5 million followers!

I check on this stuff every month or two. Google-ability is pretty important in getting the ball rolling for anything online. “Landforce” is a tough one. Just on the first page, I’m competing with Limo services, Trucking companies, and in the #1 spot, a very popular “addicting” online game called Land Force. Anyway, my Twitter has moved up to #5, from #7 last I checked.

Even better, this site has crept onto the 1st page as well. This is all particularly good because I haven’t done anything to improve the rankings for my name. Just the usual online activity. Ultimately, I need someone to see my logo, google “Landforce” and come straight to me. Soon…

As a DJ I grew up spoiled and connected with automatic gigs. Finally, I moved, and I’ve been needing something that simply says “yo, look, I can spin records.” I’ve been needing to do this forever, and I finally tackled the prospect of representing what I do in the booth in a relatively short time. It’s not perfect if you know what you’re listening to, slips off a time or two, but gah damn it’s hot in my house, and I needed to get this shit done!

This has been a while in the making, but I finally committed and went in on it, and a short time later, we’re here.What I’ve done is change the way that we post new tracks everyday. Before, it was one post (article) with a list of track names, each one being a link to the usershare.net link for the track. Got the job done but that’s about it.

With the new format you see above, each new track has it’s own post. That means, that each track can be previewed, rated, commented on, and shared individually. The previewing alone is going to be huge.. but the rest of it is going to increase interactivity with users 10 fold, with any luck. I’ve had this new format up for like an hour, on one of the deadest days of the year, and several tweets that never could have happened with the old format have already popped up from random people.

So, my room mate @ChiDuly just locked in Mike Jones for a show at Oregon State last week. This concert is his project, not mine.. but we’re partnAAa’s so as far as I’m concerned it’s mine and I’m going full bore on it as I would normally. Nothing has been officially announced, but last week we wanted to create a little curiousity/buzz to prelude things…The way that Facebook’s newsfeed works these days is like this: You can choose to see the most recent stuff in your friends, or you can see the “Top News”. What exactly is Top News is dictated by some algorithm that decides what are the most popular/relevant things your friends have been doing recently. Basically, The stuff with the most comments and likes and overall activity, goes in the Top News.

Back to the task at hand: create curiosity that can be associated with a future Mike Jones concert. So, at about noon last Thursday Chris and I got on Facebook Chat, and sent the following message to some friends:

“Blah blah blah, we just booked Mike Jones for a concert next month, and we’re going to create a little status buzz in 20 minutes. If you are down to help, please make your status read “WHOOOO???” but do not mention anything about Mike Jones. Also, any other friends who you see do the same, please ‘like’ it.”

Madness ensues, and without really trying very hard or organizing anything, we get 15-20 people to help us out by updating their status. Chris and I ‘like’ all the status posts, several other uninvolved people do the same, comments pop up left and right, and…

Victory…
